A$AP Rocky acquitted of felony charges

Rapper A$AP Rocky, born Rakim Mayers, was acquitted of two felony assault charges involving a semi-automatic firearm. The charges originated from a November 2021 incident in Hollywood, where former associate Terell Ephron, known as A$AP Relli, alleged that Rocky pointed a gun at him and fired twice, resulting in a minor injury to Ephron's hand. The Los Angeles jury deliberated for approximately three hours before delivering the not guilty verdict. Upon hearing the decision, an emotional Rocky embraced his partner, Rihanna, who had been present throughout the trial. Rocky expressed his gratitude to the jury, stating, "Thank y'all for saving my life."
The trial commenced in late January 2025, with the prosecution alleging that Rocky had intentionally fired at Ephron during a dispute. In contrast, the defense argued that the firearm in question was a prop used during a music video shoot and that Rocky had discharged blanks in self-defense. Defense attorney Joe Tacopina presented text messages from Ephron, which he claimed demonstrated Ephron's aggressive intentions leading up to the confrontation. These messages, allegedly deleted by Ephron, were pivotal in casting doubt on the prosecution's narrative.
Throughout the proceedings, the absence of the actual firearm and the lack of concrete forensic evidence posed significant challenges for the prosecution. The defense emphasized that no shell casings were recovered from the scene, and the weapon was never located during searches of Rocky's residence.
Despite the acquittal, Ephron has filed a civil lawsuit against Rocky, seeking damages for the alleged incident. The Los Angeles District Attorney's office acknowledged the jury's decision, emphasizing their commitment to pursuing accountability, regardless of an individual's status or influence.
This verdict allows A$AP Rocky to continue his personal and professional life without the looming threat of a lengthy prison sentence.
