Tehran says attack answers Israel strikes
Iranian forces carried out drone strikes on energy facilities in Haifa, targeting an oil refinery, a gas refinery and fuel storage sites, the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said, in retaliation for Israeli strikes on Iranian oil depots. The statement described the operation as part of a broader campaign and framed the attack as a response to what it labeled Phase II of US-Israeli actions that expanded strikes to Iranian energy infrastructure. The Haifa refinery, with capacity around 197,000 barrels per day, had reportedly shut down several units as a precaution.
The headquarters also claimed its forces destroyed the “Haula” satellite communications center south of Tel Aviv, described as a key communications hub for fighter jets. Separately, it announced the IRGC had launched a five-missile strike on Al-Harir Air Base in Iraq’s Kurdistan region, where US forces are present.
Iranian air defenses said they intercepted and downed multiple reconnaissance drones across several provinces, including two Hermes-900s, and asserted they have shot down more than 80 drones of various models, naming US MQ-9s and several Israeli types. The military framed the operations as part of an ongoing confrontation with the United States and Israel, with officials alleging extensive civilian damage from US-Israeli actions.
