Iran sends reply to U.S. proposal

Iran submitted an official reply to a US proposal aimed at securing a permanent end to the US‑Israeli offensive against the country, delivering its response via Pakistan, which has mediated the talks. Tehran’s reply insists that initial negotiations should focus exclusively on ending hostilities and guaranteeing maritime security in the Persian Gulf, while deferring contentious matters—including disputes over its nuclear program—to later stages. The response emphasizes ending aggression on all fronts, including Israeli strikes in Lebanon, and conditions the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz on a permanent cessation of hostilities and lifting of sanctions and blockades.

Washington had framed its proposal as a first step toward broader talks, but US leaders rejected Iran’s terms as unacceptable, a rebuff that raises questions about the immediate prospects for resumed diplomacy.

US President Donald Trump said in a post on the truth social platform: "I have just read the response from Iran’s so-called “Representatives.” I don’t like it — TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE! Thank you for your attention to this matter."

Earlier intensive negotiations held in Islamabad collapsed over what Iranian officials described as maximalist US demands.
